28mm Rotary Hammers: Maximum Anchor Power in the SDS-Plus Range
When a 26mm Machine Is Not Enough
Most anchor work stops at 26mm. Then a drawing calls for an M16 anchor, a 28mm through-hole for a pipe sleeve, or forty holes in dense reinforced slab - and that is 28mm territory: the largest hole a standard SDS-Plus rotary hammer will drill.
We build one machine for that job. The ETRH2-28 is the flagship of the corded ETpower range - 900W, 3.2J, three modes - and this page explains when it is worth its extra weight and how it earns it.
The ETRH2-28: 850 Watts, 3.2 Joules, Three Modes
Everything about the ETRH2-28 is sized up from the 800W class: 900W of motor, 3.2J per blow and a 28mm ceiling in concrete. In practice that means faster holes in dense slab, with enough reserve to hold pace through aggregate. The 3-mode selector covers rotary-only for steel and wood, hammer-drill for brick, and chisel-only for tile and mortar removal - the heaviest demolition work SDS-Plus should be asked to do. A safety clutch and auxiliary handle ship as standard; on a machine this size both are necessities, not accessories.
28mm or 26mm: How to Decide
- Anchors to M12 - stay with a 26mm machine; it is lighter and cheaper per unit.
- M14-M16 anchors, 28mm through-holes or dense engineered concrete - take the 28mm.
- All-day overhead work - a 26mm cordless machine; weight wins overhead.
- Heavy fixing plus light demolition on one site - the three modes of the ETRH2-28 replace two tools.

Where the 28mm Earns Its Keep
- Structural anchor fixing - M14-M16 chemical and mechanical anchors: ETRH2-28.
- Through-holes - pipe sleeves and cable openings; thin-wall core bits push past 28mm.
- Demolition prep - chisel mode clears thick tile beds and old mortar.
- Formwork and steel fixing - repeated drilling through hard panels and cast-in channels.
Bits and Accessories That Matter
Three add-ons decide how much of the ETRH2-28 you actually use. A set of solid SDS-Plus bits in 8-28mm covers anchor work; thin-wall core bits open 30-40mm through-holes for sleeves; and a wide chisel plus a pointed chisel turn chisel mode into genuine demolition prep. All are universal SDS-Plus, so bits from any brand fit - and we can quote bits and spares alongside the machine for OEM orders.
28mm Rotary Hammer FAQ
What size anchors can a 28mm rotary hammer install?
M14-M16 comfortably, and M12 and below all day. With thin-wall core bits it opens 30-40mm holes for pipe sleeves and cable runs.
Is 28mm the largest SDS-Plus rotary hammer?
Yes - 28mm is the practical ceiling of the SDS-Plus shank. Beyond it the standard steps up to SDS-Max, a heavier class built for demolition rather than drilling.
850W or 800W - does the difference matter?
In dense or reinforced concrete, yes: 3.2J versus 3.0J per blow shortens every hole slightly and holds speed through aggregate. In soft concrete you will not feel it.
Can the ETRH2-28 chisel?
Yes. Chisel-only mode handles tile, mortar and light demolition - about the heaviest chiselling SDS-Plus can take.
Is a bigger machine slower on small holes?
No. It drills 6-26mm holes exactly like an 800W machine; you simply carry more weight for the reserve.
Do you offer OEM on the 28mm rotary hammer?
Yes - logo, colour, packaging, and market-specific voltage and plugs (110V or 220-240V). Send your volumes for a quote.
Can the ETRH2-28 run on a generator?
Yes. The 850W motor draws around 4A at 230V, so a 2kVA generator runs it comfortably. Keep the extension lead short and thick; voltage drop shows up as lost impact.
What maintenance does a 28mm rotary hammer need?
Blow out the dust port daily, grease the bit shank every few hundred holes, and replace the carbon brushes when the tool sparks heavily. Follow the manual and the machine outlasts the site.
